Lust Essay Research Paper In the short free essay sample

Desire Essay, Research Paper In the short account Lust, the narrator dealings in thing about her sexual indiscrimination and the varying male childs she has laid down with while off at get oning school. All through the account, there are a few impelling components that added to the narrator s sexual conduct. From the start, her conduct started in light of the fact that she was off from her folks and it was new and insubordinate. The second inspiration factor was nature she was in while she was at get oning school. Her companions, the two felines and misss, added to her conduct each piece great. Plus, the inadequacy of worry by the approval figures played a segment in her conclusions. At long last, her chase for affection and security, or a passionate association with these male childs played a huge capacity on her activities. All these activating components played a monstrous capacity in loaning to the narrator s sexual conduct. The narrator s conduct started on the grounds that it was new and insubordinate. All youths experience a stage in their lives when they start trying different things with grouped things, for example, medications, intoxicant, and sex. These Acts of the Apostless so energizing from the outset since they are new and energizing, yet more altogether, on the grounds that your folks have no idea what you are making. This is the thing that started off the narrator s sexual conduct. The narrator comments, My folks had no idea. Guardians neer really cognize what s going on, especially when you re off at school the majority of the clasp ( 257 ) . This comment by the narrator recommends that holding sex with these felines is quite a lot more cheerfulness and energizing since her folks didn T comprehend what she was making. She clearly realizes that her activities would let down her folks, especially her female parent since she states, I kept the [ anti-conception medication ] dial in my best in class like my female parent and thought of her each clasp I tipped out the xanthous tablets in the Raymond 2 forenoon before sanctuary ( 259 ) . As should be obvious, she firmly realizes she is making something that would agitate her female parent since she thinks about all her clasps she takes the pill. This makes the peruser accept that potentially the rebellion of her conduct is loaning to her activities. The earth s accommodation and lack of parental control was other than a cardinal inspirational factor loaning to her wanton conduct. In a coeducational embarkation school with for all intents and purposes no managing, teenagers have a chief opportunity to explore uninhibitedly. It was obviously simple to mouse around with male childs and non obtain got. She states, We stowed away in the consultation suites during review corridor. With a record screen over the entryway s window, the educator on obligation couldn t articulation in. I came out rose-cheeked and reasonable and back at the living arrangement lobby was astounded how rosy my cuts were in the mirror ( 258 ) . For another situation with an alternate male youngster, she states, Simon escaped and run into me at Main Gate after lights-out. We crawled to the house of prayer and spent the dim in the overhang ( 260 ) . You can clearly observe that it wasn t extremely difficult to hide out somewhere in the event that you genuinely ne eded to. The sans parental condition each piece great as the accommodation of the school young lady vibe was a second contributing activating variable to the narrator s sexual conduct. Her companions, the two felines and misss, are deciding the narrator s activities all through the account each piece great. Her lady friends ever offer comments to her when they sit about in the regular room that you ever have an individual ( 259 ) . After this comment, she takes a gander at her companions and ponders internally, As if ( p. 259 ) . She obviously accepts to herself that none of these felines are actually her colleagues, yet her companions ever observe her with male childs, Raymond 3 which drives them to construe that she ever has an individual. This may subliminally express her that she should ever hold an individual since it would be irregular on the off chance that she didn t. Additionally, if the doctor gave out the pill like acetylsalicylic corrosive ( 259 ) so perhaps observe feels like she needs to keep up with every one of her companions and engage in sexual relations they as they do. In add-on, the male childs at her school structure her conduct since they as of now have a biased impression of what they are venturing out to obtain in the event that they go out with her. They more than likely cognize how she is and what they can obtain from her so she is making a trip to be the main miss they follow. Despite the fact that the notoriety she has is her ain slip-up, it is sensibly difficult to adjust when sex is about anticipated from her. Moreover, since blending to storyteller the most noticeably terrible thing anybody could name you was a rooster secret ( 259 ) , on the off chance that she was a tease, she was ever arranged to go through with it. These standpoints of her from both her colleagues and lady friends are another impelling element loaning to her sexual conduct. Not just did she hold no parental guidance in her life, however it other than appeared that the approval figures at her school about advanced that kind of conduct. For outline, the narrator expresses that, the muffle was that the school doctor gave out the pi ll like acetylsalicylic corrosive. He didn t ask you anything ( 259 ) . This is foolish to me on the grounds that on the other hand of giving multi year-olds the pill, the doctors should try to in any event endeavor to propel abstention and try to change over the misss that they are non old bounty to hold sex. Another case is at the point in the story when the misss went to see the housemother of their all inclusive school, Mrs. Gunther for counsel. When the misss proposed that felines ever need something from you and you have an inclination that you need to introduce something, she answered, You do, angels ( P. Raymond 4 262 ) . That comment totally recommends that sex is in a general sense the solitary thing that grown-up females are useful for. What Mrs. Gunther did by that comment was strengthen to the narrator that sex is the solitary thing that folks need. At last, when the schoolmaster got afflictions about her amative shows on the town green ( 261 ) , he disclosed to her that he didn t care what she did as such on the off chance that she s heading out to spoon with her individual, there are 20 homes for you to make it out of the open oculus ( 262 ) . At last, her chase for adoration and security, or a passionate association with these male childs played a huge capacity on her activities. It is conceivable that she doesn t imagine that she great at whatever else and she has nil else to offer. She states, I could make a few things great. A few things I was acceptable at which felt like a mitigation from the start until it became like droping into a muck ( p. 258 ) . It might other than be that she has tiny confidence and preferences the security of being with a grown-up male. She says, Certain darks you d experience a specific renunciation, potentially on the off chance that you d had vino. The abdication would cover yourself and you d set your olfactory organ to his cervix and feel like a squirrel, safe, at leftover portion, in a reposeful dream ( p. 258 ) . The narrator s work is that sooner or later in her life she should hold felt extremely unreliable about herself, which makes her look for some security from the varying male c hilds that she lays down with. In add-on, she may other than accept that all together for these felines to adore her she should kip with them. Obviously she doesn t believe that sex comes after adoration, yet love comes after sex. She comments after her experience with delicate Eddie that I neer saw him again after that yet I figured, I could hold adored that one ( 261 ) . The narrator s chase for a passionate association completely entrances her when she is with these male childs which Raymond 5 makes the peruser accept that this chase for adoration is an other persuasive factor loaning to her conduct. There is plentifulness of grounds, by and by, to recommend that regardless of these inspirational components, she felt truly unfilled, useless, and like a bit of meat previously, during, and after her brushs. During her brush with Tim, when he came back to her subsequent to shuting the entryway, she alluded herself as a natural structure looking out for the floor covering ( 257 ) . This obviously recommends she doesn T think she is much else to him other than a natural structure he can make what he satisfies to. She expresses that you begin to secure tired. You start to encounter weakened, as watered-down fret ( 260 ) . One would accept that in the event that she feels that weakened and less unadulterated after she engages in sexual relations with these felines so she should almost certainly end, yet it s non that simple. Close to the terminal of the short account she comments, You wonder about things encountering a little messed up. You start to encounter like a bit of beat veau ( 2 62 ) . She other than states, After sex, you twist up like a pipsqueak, something somewhere inside you demolished, pummeled in a topographic point that nauseates at slamming, and simple you top off with an overwhelming despondency, a subtle expanding concern ( 262 ) . Obviously by the terminal of the story, she isn t in any event, lounging her encounters any more, by the by, it only may be too much late to turn herself about. The narrator in lewdness is obviously a confused individual with numerous elements demonstration uponing her conduct. From the start, he new and defiant way of life assumed responsibility for her conduct. Plus, the parental free condition at school added to her activities since it was so helpful for felines and misss to gain together. Another activating variable was the power per unit territory Raymond 6 she got from her colleagues and lady friends. The approval figures contributed each piece great since they are extremely indifferent about their understudy s conduct. At last, her chase for affection and an enthusiastic association overpowered her multiple occasions while she was with arranged male childs. In spite of these impelling components, by the terminal of the account, the narrator is discontent with herself and doesn Ts cognize why she proceeds with her sexual conduct. Howeve

Finally, we’ll give you four essential tips to keep in mind during the process.DEFINE THE JOBS AND ROLES YOU WANTThe first thing you need to do is to define the jobs and roles you want. If you have the attitude of “I’ll do anything”, you’ll be wasting your time and your chances of success will diminish. On the other hand, if you narrow your search by being specific about the jobs you want, you can ensure you spend less time looking for the roles and your chance of success is much higher. You always want to aim for the jobs and roles that fit your career development goals. The next job should always be a step up on the career ladder. If you’re unsure what your career goals are or what types of jobs suit you, you should do the following things.First, consider your skills and achievements. What kinds of jobs require those skills? What are the roles that can benefit from your previous experience? Keep in mind the transferable skills. For instance, if you worked as a waiter in a bustling restaurant, but you don’t want a job in the hospitality industry, you can still use the skills you learned in other areas. You’ve improved your customer service skills, your ability to work under pressure and the ability to multitask, for example. All these skills can be used in other industries and careers.Second, if you feel completely lost in the face of all these job opportunities, try doing a career assessment test. You can find online tests at CareerFitter.com and Assessment.com or you could talk to your school’s career advisor. Remember you can contact your university’s career department even after you’ve graduated. In addition, there are independent career councilors that might be able to help. After you’re clearer about your pas sion and the jobs you want, you can focus your job search for these industries and roles.[slideshare id=29544235doc=careerplanningandassessment-131228135204-phpapp02w=640h=330]PREPARE YOUR RESUME ACCORDINGLYYou also need to get your resume or CV in order before you start job hunting. This doesn’t necessarily require you to rewrite the resume for each employer, but it does mean it should fit the specific type of role or job you are applying. The above can be achieved by ensuring you highlight the relevant skills and qualities required in the job position. If the company’s job post emphasizes things such as the ability to learn fast or problem solving skills, you need to showcase through your past experience and work history that you possess these s kills.Recruiters tend to check the online profiles of the most suitable candidates. You can find your ne xt job by using the following six routes. All of the outlined ways can be helpful, but you can always focus most of your attention on a few of these routes if you wish. We will explain how to use each route and share some best practices as well.#1 Connect with your alumniYou should be active in nurturing relationships with your alumni. Your alumnus is likely to have plenty of people who share your interests and passions, which can help you in finding suitable roles.Furthermore, you can grow your network, as your alumni friends will have their own contacts with people who might work in your chosen industry, even if the friend doesn’t.As mentioned above, don’t forget to be in touch with your school’s career department, even if you’ve graduated a long time ago. They are generally happy to help previous students and might have tips or contacts you can use in your job search.Best practices for connecting with your alumniYou should become active in engaging your alumni, both offlin e and online. You want to attend different alumni events and focus on spreading the word about your own alumni at the events, seminars and business fairs you attend. On social media, consider using the appropriate hashtags and when discussing alumni or your industry-related topics, include your university’s alumni username to the Tweets and posts.Focus your efforts on the people in your alumni who have contacts with companies or the industries you want to get hired in. You can check social media profiles or post questions on alumni forums and platforms.Ask information about the company or the job to get a better understanding of what’s required. This can also show the person you are passionate and serious about the role, making it easier for them to vouch for you later on.Learn how to leverage your alumni network by watching this video. #2 Check with your networkWhen it comes to getting hired, referrals have been shown to be the most effective. Therefore, you want to create a str ong network of people who are working in the industry or who are connected with the right people. You’ve hopefully already built a small network of people, either through your alumni, contacts from previous roles and other professional acquaintances. Examine this network and the connections these people have and identify the most influential people.Use these connections to discuss your career development goals and the job search you’re currently conducting.Best practices for checking with your networkFocus your efforts on creating long-term relationships with your network. Offer help to people when they need it, instead of simply seeking out contacts when you need something. You can even engage with your network by simply sending them articles and other such resources that they would find interesting.Stay in touch on social media and connect with your network by commenting on their posts and updates. You want to build a relationship where they see you as trustworthy person and an expert in your field.Don’t be afraid to ask for advice or information, but don’t ask for a favour or direct introduction to a hiring manager in a specific company. Instead of sending a message saying, “I see you work in company X, would you mind passing on my details to the HR?” ask something like, “I see you work in company X, I’m really interested in their X role. Could you tell something about the business culture there? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the company in your opinion?”You should also stop relying on simply nurturing the relationships online. Organize face-to-face meetings with the contacts whenever you can, as this can help build more trust. If they are attending events near you, ask if they want to meet up for a quick coffee and so on.This is how you build a career network effectively.[slideshare id=23575024doc=the5secretsofnetworking-130627085206-phpapp02w=640h=330]#3 Use job boardsWhilst job boards might not beat using referrals to gain a p osition, they are still a powerful tool to use, both online and offline. The key to using job boards is about finding the job boards best suited for the jobs you are looking for.Analyze the different options available and pick the ones that are either focused on your industry or have the best selection of companies you are interested in.If you can go niche with job boards, then you should.Best practices for using job boardsYou’ll have more success using job boards, if you don’t simply upload your resume and walk away. It’s important to regularly update the resume to ensure it stays at the top of the list.Take advantage of the search tools on the online job listing sites. These help you customize the kind of jobs you are looking for, especially in terms of the location. Again, narrowing down your search options will guarantee recruiters understand what you are looking and can, therefore, match you with the jobs they have.Your resume should also be filled with keywords and you ca n add keywords to your online profile. Use specific and clearly defined keywords, instead of generic ones. For example, instead of saying, “jobs in tech”, opt for “IT support manager” or another similar narrow job description. Finally, don’t apply to jobs on job boards without researching the company. Even if the role seems exciting, you want to know what the company’s values are and what kind of business culture it has.#4 Contact headhuntersAs well as using job boards, you could also contact headhunters. This is especially beneficial for middle- and senior-level professionals. Headhunters have the positions for these roles and they focus on executive jobs.Best practices for contacting headhuntersJust like with job boards, you need to identify the headhunters who are specialized in the industry you are interested in or who operate with companies you’d like to work for. Make contact with the headhunter and explain the positions you are interested in and the reasons you†™re suitable for those roles. When contacting headhunters over specific roles, ask questions about the company and the role. This shows interest and professionalism.Don’t stop contact with the headhunter if you are rejected or indeed, if you get the role. Remember headhunters are another tools to use for career progression, and you might require their services later in your career. This guide explains in depth how to best utilize a headhunter for career progression.[slideshare id=30488532doc=guidetofindingandworkingwithheadhunters-140127082221-phpapp02type=dw=640h=330]#5 Attend career recruitment eventsYou should also use career recruitment events as a tool in your job search. This can be a powerful way to find out about exciting roles, but it’s also beneficial in terms of networking.Remember to take advantage of other events that aren’t necessarily the traditional career fairs, but which still provide networking opportunities. These include events such as charity events in your chosen industry, business seminars in the field and company open days.Best practices for attending career eventsBefore attending an event, conduct research into the event in terms of participants and the discussions. Identify the companies and their representatives, as well as other key professionals, you want to make contact with and do a bit of research on them.At the event, try finding these individuals and strike up a conversation with them. Don’t be pushy or mention how you want them to hire you or introduce you to someone, but talk about your interests and casually mention you’re searching for jobs in the industry.Organize a follow-up after the event if you can. For this purpose, remember to give and collect business cards and be active in terms of utilizing them. Drop a quick email to the person or connect with them on social media to continue the discussion.#6 Build a credible online reputationIn 2010, Microsoft conducted a study, which found that 80% of employers searc h for applicants online before inviting them to an interview. By today’s use of the Internet in terms of jobs, the number is likely much closer to 100%.This means your online reputation can either damage, or benefit your chances of finding a job. The key is to create a credible online reputation. For professional purposes, platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook are the best. Ensure they use keywords relating to the jobs you want, mention the key qualifications and skills required in these jobs and have references or recommendations from people within the industry.Best practices for creating a credible online reputationKeep highly personal stuff behind locked profiles to guarantee potential employers don’t witness your drunken posts or see you doing silly things on a holiday. While we’re all simply humans, it doesn’t give a professional image. If there are damaging posts or pictures online, try to remove these. If they can’t be removed, try ensuring they aren’t immediately associated with your professional career. For example, consider using maiden name, different initials or usernames to ensure initial search doesn’t bring them up. It’s also a good idea to have an explanation at hand, in case the employer brings them up during a job interview.Nonetheless, if you want to keep your so-called private social media profiles public, consider using a simple username, which doesn’t connect your profile to your professional profiles.Use social media for highlighting your expertise as well. This means engaging in industry discussions, providing helpful tips to people asking about the sector and generally speaking out. This can help you create a professional and knowledgeable online persona. If you can, blogging is another good way of attracting potential employers. USEFUL TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND FOR YOUR JOB SEARCHFinally, a few practices and behaviors can boost your job search. When you’re starting your hunt for the next job position, keep these four ti ps in mind.Perfect your elevator pitchWhilst you might think the famous elevator pitch is not related to job search, the truth is different. An elevator pitch can help, as you are essentially selling your personal brand to a potential employer and you often don’t have more than a few seconds to gain their interest.Create your selling pitch by basing it on your personality, your skills and your achievements. Keep the sales talk short and sweet, with an emphasis on the start.Boost your personal brand further by focusing your efforts on social media activity and networking. With the ideas and practices mentioned in the previous section, you can become a person who’s known for specific talents and characteristics.Create a target list of the employersAs well as defining the kind of jobs and roles you want, you should also have a list of your ideal employers.Pick your ideal employers based on the values and aspirations you share. This helps you focus your networking efforts and it can help find a job you actually want and enjoy doing, as an enjoyable career isn’t just built around the role, but also the corporate culture around you. When it comes to applications and networking, keep the ideal companies at the forefront. Nonetheless, don’t exclude companies that aren’t on your list outright. There might be companies out there you didn’t think about or haven’t yet heard of.If an opportunity comes along with a company, conduct research and make your decision based on the findings.Don’t give upFinding the perfect job won’t be easy and it won’t always be fun. There are certainly going to be times when browsing job boards becomes frustrating and the rejections start hurting.Don’t give up. You need to stay positive, keep upbeat and trust in your abilities. The opportunities will come and the work you put into networking will bear fruit. If you are currently between jobs, take it as a transition period not unemployment. Don’t be afraid to tell people i n your network you’re in transition. You won’t find a job hiding in a closet feeling sorry for yourself.Consider joining a job search groupFinally, make the burden of job search a bit more fun by joining a job search group. You can organize a support group with people in your network who are doing the same or find groups online.Your group can be online or offline based. The key is to ensure you motivate and challenge each other.Discuss your progress regularly and create milestones, which you all want to achieve. These can be small such as sending an X amount of emails to contacts and include the ultimate goal of being hired. Use the group for accountability and advice. Who knows, the group might even turn out to be a handy networking tool!CONCLUDING REMARKSThe above should hopefully have provided you with the tools needed for conducting job search and outlined the practices that can boost your chances of finding your next job. Finding a job is not easy, but there are plenty of t ools available to make it a bit smoother.Focus on understanding what you want from your career and targeting the jobs and companies that help you find the ideal role. Use networking as a path to gaining more knowledge and getting your foot firmly on the career ladder. Approach your job search positively and always keep your eyes open!

Govt200 Worldview Analysis Essay - 912 Words

Worldview Analysis Essay The institution of family and marriage was at one point one of the strongest institutions between two people that existed in the world. However, due to process philosophy, we can now see that same institution is being attacked and transformed into something that God objects to. As Christians, the Bible is our way to better understand and worship God. If we explore the ESV version in Genesis 2, we see God made man and woman and said that they â€Å"shall become one flesh†. Karl Marx however, offered up a different approach. Marx was an Atheist and therefore did not believe in God or the word of God (Martin, 2006). Marx’s atheistic teachings created a succession of process philosophers that eventually brought us to our†¦show more content†¦With that mindset, our nation has come to the position it is in, particularly in regards to homosexual â€Å"marriages’. Something that is so clearly stated that is sinful, our government leaders have decided to legaliz e. How can we, as God’s people, think that we have a right to change one of God’s laws? The answer is Marxism. Once we start disobeying God and start creating our own rules, we begin sinning against God. The consequences of Marxism can be witnessed everyday if we pay close attention. Marxism teaches that everyone is born into a classless society, with everyone being the same. Today, you can observe other people that constantly need to be like everyone else and to have the material things that everyone else has. These basic ideas of conforming are Marxist in nature and are actually mentioned in Ecclesiastes 4:4-7. Eventually, if we follow the path of Marxism, we see how it goes from Capitalism, to Socialism, to Communism. Socialism though, is what we are dealing with more and more in our daily lives. We see it happening in our government, work, and if we’re not cautious, we will eventually see it in our families. Socialism is visible at work every day, especially in regards to welfare. If we look at the traditional marriage, God ordered the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, to reproduce. â€Å"And God blessed them. And God said to them, â€Å"Be

Most Politically and economically stable country Free Essays

What country do you believe is the most politically and economically stable country to live in and why? Personally, I believe that the most politically and economically stable country to live in the world is Finland. The country is an ideal place to live in as it very few political concerns and few economic problems. Basically, for any country to be politically stable, it first has to learn discipline and adhere to moral standards. We will write a custom essay sample on Most Politically and economically stable country or any similar topic only for you Order Now In this regard, Finland has consistently maintained very low levels of corruption. In the country, there are almost no reported corruption cases such as abuse of power while in public office, nepotism, bribery, extortion, graft, embezzlement, and cronyism. As a result, based on the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, the survey which determines the level of corruption all countries in the world, Finland has consistently ranked number one, along with Denmark and New Zealand, among the least corrupt countries in the world. In other words, people living in Finland take comfort in knowing that all the taxes that they pay are put into good use since there is almost no corruption in the country. In addition, low corruption levels could also mean that the budget allocation for every department is free from kickbacks, which are usually illegally taken by public officials, and can lead to favorable gains such as road constructions, establishment of infrastructures, and improvement of public transportation, among others. Moreover, considering the low levels of corruption, it is safe to say that the country is lead by officials who have a genuine concern for the welfare of their people and who place the nation’s interest above anything else. In addition, these leaders can also serve as good examples other countries around the world. Furthermore, another notable aspect of the country is its relatively powerful economy. Basically Finland is a country that is highly-industrialized and has a free market economy, which rival that of other European economic powerhouses such as Germany and the United Kingdom. The country is also a key player in foreign trade as it also has large manufacturing companies of vehicles, machinery, chemicals, forestry products, and electronics. Moreover, the country has also been cited as the most competitive country from 2003 to 2005 and in 2006 for its research, development, and innovation, particularly on information technology. This is best shown in the success of Nokia, the leading mobile phone company, which has greatly contributed to Finland’s economic success. Other companies that are major contributors to the country’s economy include Akey Finnyards, which manufactures the largest cruise ships in the world, and Store Enso, which is the largest manufacturer of paper in the world. However, aside from contributing to Finland’s economic growth, these companies in the industry have also generated more jobs for the people living in the country. In addition, the low levels of corruption have also lead to more investors in the country, and as a result, the prices of goods have not dramatically increased. In short, I believe that Finland’s stable economy and progressive economy have made it one of the world’s most ideal countries to live in. General Information Definition Literature reviews can have two roles: In their first role, they function as a stand-alone paper. At other times they will actually be part of a larger research thesis. We will write a custom essay sample on Literature Review Format or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In this handout, literature reviews will be referred to in the stand-alone sense. As a stand-alone paper, literature reviews are multi- layered and are more formal and detailed than book reviews. As the author of a literature review, you must become familiar with a large amount of research on a specific topic. You will then develop your own thesis about the topic related to this research. After this, you will classify and critically analyze research on the topic by making a comparison between several different studies and by emphasizing how these studies and their comparison relate to your own thesis. In effect, a literature review is a paper that compiles, outlines and evaluates previously established research and relates it to your own thesis. It provides a context for readers as if they Email at [emailprotected] Due University West, room 129 (361) 570-4288 were researching the topic on their own. Just from reading your paper, readers should be able to gain insight into the amount and quality of research n the topic. Your thesis and the literature reviewed serve several important functions within the paper: ; Your thesis creates a foundation for the literature review because it helps narrow the topic by providing a sense of direction; however, you will have to conduct some initial research and reading before deciding on an appropriate thesis.Your personal thesis may be a statement addressing some of the following situations: why your research needs to be carried out, how you came to choose certain methodologies or theories to work with, how your work adds to the research already carried out (Bright;ell, G. And Shaw, J. 1997-98), or it may present some other logical perspective. ; Reviewed literature is organized in a logical manner that best suits the topic of the review and the hypothesis of the literature (see Organization and Format). The selected method of organization and style of format should draw attention to similarities and differences among the reviewed literature; these similarities and differences are based on specific criteria you revealed in the literature reviews introduction. According to Brightener and Shaw (1997-98), your goal in the body of the review should be to evaluate and show relationships between the work already done (Is Researcher YKs theory more convincing than Researcher Axs? Did Researcher X build on the work of Researcher Y? And between this work and your own [thesis]. Additional information on these topics can be found in the Organization and Format sections of this packet. Therefore, carefully planned organization is an essential part of any literature review. Pu rpose Although literature reviews may vary according to discipline, their overall goal is similar. A literature review serves as a compilation of the most significant sources on a subject and relates the findings of each of these sources in a rational manner while supporting the literature review authors own thesis.A literature review establishes which sources are most relevant to its authors point and which sources are most credible to the discipline at hand. In a literature review, the results of previous research are summarized, organized and evaluated. Discipline-Specificity A literature reviews organization, format, level of detail and citation style may vary according to discipline because different disciplines have different audiences. Examples here pertain to the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. Natural and social sciences The author of a literature review in the natural or social sciences must pay close attention to measurements, study populations and technical aspects of experimental findings. Typically, a portion of the natural or social sciences liter ature review is set aside for reviewing sources on the primary topic. Then, a comparative analysis or discussion section is used to analyze the similarities and differences among the sources, tying them in with the literature review authors original thesis. Humanities The author of a literature review in the humanities usually does not set aside a special section for reviewing the resources; instead, citations may be found randomly throughout the paper. The literature being reviewed is arranged according to paragraphs based on the authors points, which in turn, support the authors thesis. The paper itself may not be called a literature review at all. It is more likely to be called a critical analysis. Remember that the best bet for determining what type of literature review is appropriate for your course is checking with the instructor prior to beginning research.REVIEW 1 . What is the purpose of a literature review? What is the connection between the authors thesis and the literature being reviewed? . What discipline will your literature review be classified in? Process 1. Find several articles that deal with your research topic. Sometimes it is helpful to review the bibliography of one of the first scholarly sources that you encounter and compare it to the bibliographies of other sources on the topic. If the same source is listed within several of these bibliographies, it is probably a fundamental, credible source that will aid you in your review. 2.Before you begin reviewing literature, realize that you are looking to accomplish two things: A. Defining your research problem/thesis (examples: ending a flaw in research, continuing previous research, etc .. B. Reading and evaluating significant works that are relevant to your research problem. You will be conducting Steps A and B simultaneously because the two form a circular pattern. As you read related sources (Step B), you define your problem, and as you define your problem (Step A) you will more easily be able to decide what material is relevant enough to be worthy of reading (Step B). . Once you begin reviewing, make an entry with complete bibliographical information and comments for each work that you are going to include in the review. 4. Compare the articles by evaluating the similarities and differences among them. This will be the initial stage in the formulation of your thesis. 5. Form a thesis that is clearly written and can be logically supported by the literature you will include in your review. 6. View the articles briefly again and jot down any notes that seem to relate to your thesis. 7.Decide which organizational pattern and format are best for the topic of your review. 8. Construct an appropriate outline for the literature review. 9. Write an intro suction that introduces the topic, reveals your thesis statement, and arranges key issues. 0. Organize and write the body of your paper according to the appropriate format: topical or chronological. 1 1 . Write a conclusion that reconciles similarities and differences on the topic and reemphasizes the criteria used to arrive at this conclusion. 12. Complete the final draft of the literature review. 13. Check over the final draft for grammar and punctuation errors. 14. Else the checklist provided here to make sure that all parts of the literature review are addressed and focused. Establishing a Critical Response for a Literature Review You may find this section helpful at Steps 3, 4 and 5 of the process. When reviewing your sources, explore the following areas to help develop your critical response: What is the purpose of the research or work? What research or literary methods are used? How do the major concepts operate? In a research study, how accurate are the measurements? In a literary work, is the authors position objective or biased? What are the different interpretations of the results of the study or of the literary work itself? REVIEW 1. What do you consider to be the most crucial step(s) in the process of your literature review? Why? Justify your response(s). Organization A literature review can be arranged either topically or chronologically. Topical organization occurs in reviews where previous research being evaluated is divided into segments with each one representing a part Of some larger issue. In a topical review, the author begins by describing the characteristics of research shared by several studies and then moves on to analyze their similarities and differences. For more information, see the example below. Example The organization of a literature review begins in the introduction. For example, in the introduction of a literature review about the effect of eating arrangements on peer tutoring communication, you would first introduce the topic and what your literature review will attempt to assess: . Writing centers can set the table for collaborative tutoring sessions through a careful consideration of spatial arrangement Then state what angle is going to be explored: .. . These studies will be used to support the authors claims that spatial arrangement is instrumental in encouraging collaborative environments in the writing center Then, arrange key issues that will be addressed in this review by answering questions that you have personally developed and are tailored to Fitzroy epic.In the introduction, give the audience a clear picture of how you will organize your paper: In the following, II first review some relevant research concerning spatial arrangement and then discuss some recommended and alternate seating arrangements to encourage a collaborative environment in the writing center. Finally, include some other considerations. In the body Of this literature review, you would organize the information topically around each point (or question) that you asked yourself: -Research Review -Recommended Spatial Arrangement -Alternative Spatial Arrangement -OtherConsiderations Then, write a conclusion that explains the significance of your findings: While the seating arrangements outlined above are generally a good setting for peer tutoring sessions, we should remember that each tutoring session is unique. Not all students will be comfortable With a side-by-side spatial arrangement at a round table. Tutors should be perceptive of and receptive to students who may have other spatial needs.. .Chronological organization occurs when a review is organized in time order and is most often used when a historical context is needed for discussing a epic from its beginning to its current state; chronological organization is especially helpful when discussing inactive periods and shifts in perspective on a given topic. Example The organization of a literature review begins in the introduction. For example, in the introduction of a literature review entitled Development of Social Science Research on Attitudes Towards Gender in America, you would first introduce the topic and what your review hopes to assess: This literature review will assess the development of research designed to uncover gender attitudes in America during the latter part of the 10th Century. .. .. As research progressed throughout the 20th century, the methods that social scientists use for measuring these attitudes developed and changed as well Then, chronologically arrange issues that will be addressed in this review: Gender stereotypes still exist today, and varying attitudes can be traced over the past fifty years. Survey instruments used to gather data on these varying attitudes have also changed drastically over the course of time.In the body of this literature review, you would organize the information chronologically, addressing each point (or question) that is being asked for a reticular time period: -Stereotypes and Survey Instruments of the sasss Stereotypes and Survey Instruments of the sasss -Stereotypes and Survey Instruments of the sasss -Stereotypes and Survey Instruments of the CSS Stereotypes and Survey Instruments of the sasss -Current Advancements Always clear the use of I with your instructor. An alternative to this would be the use of third person wording, such as This paper reviews some relevant research concerning spatial arrangement and then discusses some recommended and alternate seating arrangeme nts to encourage a collaborative environment in the writing center. university West, room 129 Although the survey instruments used in the 1 asss and sasss developed an obvious bias when surveying Americans regarding gender attitudes, the sasss brought about great change.Today social scientists are more careful than ever about testing the quality of a survey instrument before using it on the general public. Format There are also two suggested formats for composing your literature review. Format A is used when comparing several studies that have similar hypothesis but different findings. Each piece of research is summarized individually. Format A is good for reviews with a small number Of entries; forever, this format may confuse the audience when used with a large number of reviews because descriptions of so many studies may get in the way of the analysis.Keep in mind that each piece of research usually will not receive equal attention in the review. Format A Outline l. Introduction consists of four parts that are usually discussed in one paragraph. A. Identify the general topic being discussed. B. Mention trends published about the topic. C. State thesis establishing the reason for writing the literature review. D. Explain criteria by giving a description of each of the criteria used in evaluating the iterate review and rationalizing its organization II. Literature reviewed section is divided up according to study. . First study is summarized and discussed. B. Second study is summarized and discussed. C. Third study is summarized and discussed. Ill. Comparative analysis acknowledges the similarities and differences between studies. A. Similarities (if any) among the studies are evaluated and discussed. B. Differences (if any) among the studies are evaluated and discussed. IV. Conclusion/Summary effectively wraps up the review. A. Summarize points of comparison or contrast among the works based on Section Ill of your review. . Provide insight of relationship between the topic of the review and a larger area of study such as a specific discipline or profession Format B organizes the literature review according to similarities and differences among research rather than by literature studied. In a review organized according to Format B, little background information on the literature being reviewed is given outright. Instead, it is worked into the body paragraphs of the sections on similarities and differences. The conclusion then uses these two sections (similarities and differences) to tie in points of comparison and contrast between the works. Format B better suits papers that are topically organized. Format B is outlined below. University West, room 1 29 Format B Outline l. Introduction consists of four parts usually discussed in one paragraph. A. Identify the general topic being discussed. B. Mention trends published about the topic. C. State thesis establishing the reason for writing the literature review. D.Explain criteria by giving a description of each of the criteria used in evaluating the literature review and rationalizing its organization II. Similarities within the research are discussed. A. First similarity among research is discussed. B. Second similarity among research is discussed. C. Third similarity among research is discussed. Ill. Differences in the research are discussed. A. First difference been research is discussed b. Second difference between research is discussed c. Third difference between research is discussed IV.Conclusion/Summary a. Summarize points of comparison or contrast between the works. B. Provide insight into relationship between the topic of the literature and a larger area of study such as a specific discipline or profession. The most important thing to remember when organizing a literature review is that it is not a list summarizing one work after another. The review should be organized into sections according to theme that are set apart by subject-related headings. REVIEW 1. Which format have you chosen for your literature review? Why?
